Would you volunteer to hang a thin wire and postal 170 feet above the ground?
I did and I enjoyed every minute of it. It takes a leap of faith and trust in itself, its equipment and guides. But trust me, it's worth.
My sister and I went with six other "guests", Ozone Canopy Adventure Oregonian, Ohio, with Josh and Skot as our guides. Our group ran the gambit when we consider the ages. There were a couple of young teenagers, and then led me to the top of the scale, at 63.
Josh was our "sender" and showed full confidence, patience and skill. Looked at our computer each time and instructed each of us how we should proceed. Skot was the "receiver" and took our knocks in good nature. Some of the guests arrived smoothly, while others zoom in was small in stature but large in capacity.
My sister and I had ideas assumptions as to what would happen and it goes without saying, that are not correct. We had visions of doing some serious hiking, which is a favorite pastime for either us. In my opinion, if you zip down, we had to walk back up, to rack again. We are more or less finished compressed tree tree. Swaying sky bridges across seven cables, rack seven zip lines, and up 79 steps from a platform 45 feet high tree. At no time were excursion. When all was said and done, it really covers a short distance and do not leave the launch point.
Josh and we checked and Skot walked step by step through to our harness and get properly adjusted. Then they checked out everything before you leave the room, and again, when we started in the first stage of our adventure.
There was no hesitation or fear on the base that gives us the do's and don'ts, and tips. Josh Skot was complete and professional, but relaxed enough to help us feel comfortable, because it took in everything around us. The history, wildlife and nature speaks quickly went down the road.
Do not get me wrong, do not undermine the importance of education and history, but like a child released in a candy store, there was simply too much to see in this first trip.
We each had specific tasks that would performed. The first was hearing and seeing Josh and Skot for instruction and direction. We have access to the trees by swinging sky bridges leading from a platform to another. On the platform, which was on a high box, where our team found Josh. Oh, I must tell you that at no time were out of sight of our free phone or a safety line. The "sender" accompanying us to the zipline. Our second study was to "sit" in our head harness. The safety harness is actually a conglomeration of straps that crisscross at strategic points to give maximum support and balance.
The third work was to stretch the legs and cross your ankles. The fourth task was to raise the ankles, when we were ready to zip, and we would go. The fifth was to direct the device car that rolled down the zipline. There were some other instructions, but these were the foundations for the compress. The hardest part for me was taking that leap of faith and raise my ankles, so I plan on the platform, and there in the wild blue. I did - seven times! Every time I had to remind myself that it was important that I could not see the ground or the end point.
I was so busy focusing on the direction and looking for that I got from Skot point A to point B before they even realized what was happening. In fact he never gave a thought to the task. The speed was incredible. The wind was not too bad and just added to the adventure. This is an incredible feeling that slides over or through the trees. Sometimes it felt like you should be able to reach alone and touch the leaves.
For some reason, I was more confident on the zip lines than it was in swaying sky bridges. We crossed the seven bridges. They did swing, and influences, but we have not connected to a safety line all the time and had nothing to fear.
Josh and Skot explained to us that the affair was strictly voluntary and at any time, if it considers that any of us uncomfortable or wanted to stop, that would be able to arrive safely to the point of departure.
When we were on the platform to launch the fourth and fifth post, I felt a brief episode of vertigo, but happened in seconds. The trick is not to look down. You can look out, but looking down can be very disconcerting.
Skot told us our longest line was 700 feet. The area was impressive, and the views were spectacular. I do not know how this compares to other adventures Tyrolean but for this adventure, all that is perfect. Ozone Canopy Adventures has a long way for the more adventurous, but it went very well for this time.
Zip I was before, but it was totally different. It was in Berlin and had no security measures or guides. They have a small park with a raised platform that is maybe two feet off the ground. They stand on the platform, grab a stick that has a seat that stretch (like a swing), and ready for a hundred feet. I had no way prepared for this awesome experience.
Seriously, if you want an adrenaline rush, enjoy nature and the outdoors, and advance the sense of adventure, do not overlook zipline. I have understood that even you can zip around the world tour. That may be, but if you want a place to start - or stop - I recommend www.ozonezips.org . The experience is oddly exciting, and rest, at the same time.
About the Author
I was born in Kentucky. My home is now in Florida, but it has been a long road getting here, and I am still not sure this is home. As a child I never lived anywhere a full year, and as an adult, that pattern of lifestyle stayed with me.
My life has taken me to every state in the US, I have visited four continents, and I have been around the world. I love to watch people, see places, learn how to do new things and observe how people work and play.
My work, my life, chose me - not, the other way around. Because of the work I have accomplished, the places I have lived, my travels, my family and the people I have met, my perspectives are probably more open minded and tolerant than most.
I am a writer and author, as well as a publisher. And, I host a computer club and own a computer learning center. As a keynote and public speaker I conduct talks, lectures, and workshops.
Somewhere beyond the horizon or at the end of the railroad track is home, and someday I will find it, or maybe I will always wander.
