What does it mean when a male beta fish makes bubbles on top of the fish tank?

The bubbles look like someone have spit on top of the fish tank

It just means that he's exercising his right to practice being a "daddy" by building a bubble nest!! Don't worry, it doesn't mean he HAS to breed or that he's lonely and wants a mate and "babies" (fry) or anything like that......they just do it sometimes out of instinct. Mine Betta does it all the time, I think he just does it for fun, lol.

You can rest assured that this is a GREAT sign that he is content and you are taking good care of him. For more fun with him and stimulation, try holding a mirror in front of his tank once or twice a day and let him see himself....watch him puff and flare and show off!! It's fun for them and as I said, keeps them stimulated. It's fun to watch when they really get in to it! Just a thought.
