What You Need in a Sports Socks

When I start to think about socks worn in sports, a couple of words pop into my head. Durability, comfort, support and dryness are definitely in the forefront. The type of sport activity is of utmost importance when selecting a sport sock also. You would not want to wear a heavy thick knee high sock to protect your shins from the soccer ball if all you intended to do was go for a run with the cool breeze caressing your calves.

The fabric of the sports sock is imperative as well. Who wants to think about sweaty feet when you should be concentrating on scoring the wining run for your baseball team? After taking home the MVP award for your football team...the only thing that should be wet is your head from the ice cooler being dumped on your head in celebration! Cotton socks tend to absorb sweat and dry very slowly so they are not ideal for highly active sports. The best fabric to keep the sweaty feet at bay is a combination sock...a mixture of cotton, nylon and even spandex. Although cotton socks are appropriate for many sports, a sock made of fabric that aerates well is essential when playing extremely active sports.

The length of the sock can be just as important as the fabric. The choice of sock length is truly dependent on the sport or activity that you are participating in. While you may want a knee high supportive sock for lacrosse to prevent injury to your calves, a sock that barely covers the ankle and is made of a lighter fabric keeps your foot circulation at it's peak for cross country running.
