I found an orange spider in my greenhouse today,it had a shiny silver line down the centre of its back.Ident?

Igrow nothin exotic.I stay West coast,'Bonnie Scotland' Its body was bout 1/2 cm.legs 1.5cm and had woven a lovely big pentagon shaped type web.Kind of stretchy,sticky web.
Can anyone identify this? I did not kill it just got my daughter to put it in the grass and tree area outside the garden.

I wonder if it was a golden orb weaver? It's always hard to ID spiders from word descriptions. Here's a nice page of some of the commoner British spiders with photos and descriptions. Of course, you could have found something rare and splendid, in which case you could always send them a photo. =)
