I'm sorry but there are meant to be uncomfortable, that's how they help with the circulation and stop you getting deep vein thrombosis.

You should have been given an aftercare leaflet on your discharge from hospital.

Veins are not my thing so I don't know how long you need to keep the stockings on for, but what I would suggest is that you give the ward a ring - they won't mind answering your question.
