There is something on my thigh, can you help me figure out what it is?

Okay, so two days ago I discovered a raised portion on my inner thigh that looked like a pimple but also looked like a mosquito bite. When I showed it to my husband he said he thought it was a pimple...

now, two days later I woke up in the morning and there was a little white at the tip that I could not seem to squeeze out and it is red or bruised all around it, red in color, about the size of my palm...my husband now thinks it is a spider bite but after doing research that seem unlikely. He wants me to go see a doctor but I really feel no need and was just looking for some advice....thank you!

I believe it sounds like an infected hair. The infection can start out like a pimple, then get bigger if it doesn't resolve and become a furuncle. It can turn into a carbuncle, or boil after that.

But like the previous answerer said, the inside of your thigh is very sensitive to bruising.. it's soft flesh and isn't used to things like this. Was it as big a reddened area before you squeezed it? It sounds like you just irritated the tissues surrounding it and it appears bigger now.

What happens with things like this is histamines are released into the tissues where the infection is so that white blood cells can come and fight off the infection (hence the white tip). If, when you squeezed it, the infection didn't come out but went down a bit instead, it can cause further infection, which obviously isn't a great thing.

You may just want to leave it alone for another day or so to see if the swelling goes down along with the reddness and heat. If it begins to go down, you should be fine. If it doesn't, you should probably see the doctor to see about getting treatment from them. There may be something else brewing there that needs medical attention.

In the meantime, if it gets uncomfortable to wear clothing against the area, you can get some 2x2 gauze squares and some tape and secure it to the area over the white tip. The gauze is better than a band-aid because it allows air to get to the skin surface where the band-aid can sometimes trap moisture. And since it's located in the inner thigh, the gauze may work best.
