I want to decorate children's socks with decoative buttons, I don't sew. Will Hot Glue work instead?

I want to place rhinestones on upper part of the cuff on little girls'socks and then place a decorative on the outside of each of the socks. I am unable to sew so I was wondering if hot glue would work or if not, if someone could recommend a way to make the buttons stay relatively permanently on the socks. Will the hot glue make the buttons stay relatively permanently?? Your prompt response is greatly appreciated as I need to get some done for a neighborhood craft festival.

There are some glues designed specifically for this type of project. One type is called Jewel-It. Hot Glue may melt the fibers of the sock and make it stiff. And hot glue isn't designed for washable fibers.

Walmart may have a fabric glue, they definitely have alot of craft stuff so look on several aisles. Also JoAnns, Michaels, Hobby Lobby

For what you are doing, you might also consider some of the beaded trim available for the cuffs. There are some really cute themed ones.

And to be honest, sewing the items on is really the best bet. You may not be able to sew, but surely you can thread a needle and simply weave the needle through the sock and then through the button.
