All About Ugg Boots

Ugg boots probably has become a buzz in today’s fashion world: maybe because celebrities wear them or maybe because there is a certain charismatic aura around the word Ugg. Whatever it may be, they are a definite fashion accessory.

Sheepskin or Ugg Boots – what are they?

The term ‘ugg boots’ in generic use refers to a boot made of sheepskin, typically identified with Australian make. ‘UGG’ is also a trademark of boots manufactured by a U.S. Company ‘UGG Australia.’ Whatever be the use, these boots are soft, furry and keep the feet incredibly warm.

As these boots are designed with sheepskin that is double faced, so they are even said as Sheepskin Boots. This double-faced sheepskin is a single layer with outside as skin and inside as fleece that maintains the thermostatic nature of the sheepskin. This will keep your feet warm and comfy during winter and very cold and breathable during summer. So no matters whether it is sheepskin or ugg boots for they both are same.

Ugg boots – Etymology

The word ugg, as we know it now, once meant ugly. Though it is quite surprising, yet it is the truth. The legend says that when these sheep skin boots were first used, they had none of the fashionable look of the present days. They looked ugly and naturally they are called ‘ugly boots’. Ugg and ugs are used in short to refers to these ugly boots and hence the name.

Sheepskin and Ugg boots’ styles and flavors

Women have a lot of styles to choose from than men. Feminine and girlish colors like pink and purple are commonly seen with variations in design and type: chunky, heels, flats etc. Men ugg boots come in neutral colors and there are some interesting discussions over internet whether or not uggs make a fashion statement for men. Many consider ugg for men are for comfort alone, though it is truly a matter of personal choice.

When and what to wear with ugg boots?

Sheepskin or ugg boots can be worn in cold season upto -30 degree Fahrenheit. They keep the feet comfortably warm in this range. Jeans tucked into the boots is a great look for girls and women. Ugg boots are casual type footwear and so rugged shirts with jean will be the desired look for men. These can be worn with or without socks or hose without freezing your legs. But is better to not prefer socks as it may give you an ugly look.
