Changing Your Furnace Filters Regularly

How regularly do you replace your furnace air filters?  You should change them once a month so that you end up with clean air all through your home and also helps keep your furnace going the right way.  The more debris that gets caught in your furnace air filters, the harder it has to work to get the air throughout the rooms.  If you use central air conditioning, you should also continue to replace the furnace air filters during the summer months, too.  If you do not have central air conditioning, you can get by with swapping them once a month during the months when you use your heating.  This will also slash your heating bill.

Before you pick out furnace air filters, you should be aware of the size that your furnace requires.  There are quite a few different styles of furnace air filters on the market.  They include those that are meant for single-use and those that can be used again and again.  Washable furnace air filters are not meant to last a lifetime, but may last a year.  You can usually reduce costs if you get a washable air filter, but you be required to clean it each month.

To clean washable furnace air filters, you should stick them under running water to wash out every bit of dust and dirt built up in your furnace.  This will help you to keep the filter clean so it can serve your furnace more efficiently.  The more you attend to cleaning and changing your filters, the better the fan will operate on your furnace.  When the filters get clogged, it not only pumps unclean air to each of your rooms, but it also will wind up bringing up the cost of your furnace.

If you have a specific style of furnace, you might want to go with furnace filters that are made by the furnace company.  You  can either choose these through Internet stores, where you can often take advantage of lower prices, or buy them from the furnace company itself.  There are quite a few varying sizes for the furnace air filters, so make sure that you choose the right size for your furnace.  You might need to take an old one in with you as you go to the store so that you can find out which size matches your current filter.  If you are getting filters online, pull the furnace filter out and then look at it so that you will be able to view the size.  Large numbers of people try to play it by ear when they are ordering furnace air filters and get an incorrect size that will not work in the furnace.
