Why does my Red Eared Slider turtle open his mouth when i pick him up?

my turtle loves to be held probably unlike any other turtle... well i used to have 3 red eared slider turtles but 2 of them died and now i have 1 but anyway all of them would open their mouth all the time and i want to know what it is is he sick or is it normal behavior if he is sick how can i fix it i want to keep her for a long time unlike the others ( ive had her for about 1 year) please help!

It sounds like a classic respiratory infection. Call a vet ASAP..respiratory infections are the #1 killer of all reptiles!!! It is very easy to treat if caught early enough. Also talk to the vet in detail about your set up..it may be caused by something you need to fix.
