Purple imac G3 - Is it upgradeable to mac OS X?
I have an old purple imac G3 (the models with the push button eject on the CD drive, not the automatic super drive).
I was wondering if this little bad boy is upgradable to mac OS X? (doesnt have to be the latest -- 10.5)
would there any necessary upgrades I may need? This computer is completely stock and NOTHING has been upgraded in this machine.
Its a beautiful machine despite its age and I want to give it some sort of functionality!
It depends on how much RAM is installed. The most current version of OS X it will run is 10.3

which will run in 128MB RAM, the "official" maximum for your iMac (unofficially, it may go to 512MB)

although in my experience you'd want at least 256MB RAM for reasonable performance, and on a 6GB hard drive, OS X alone will take up at least half the available disk space. For you to run OS X, you'd want a larger hard drive, and much more RAM than the stock 32MB.
