where do I go to get a gothic/punk hair cut?

Right now my hair is maybe an inch or two from reaching my shoulders and its so plain and borring!
Im not to sure if I should cut it myself?? You knw with scissors or a razor, im a little scared if I might mess up ... but I live in the San Diego county and not sure where to go?
Should I just go to a regular salon and ask them to cut it "punk" style or anything? Or if I do, should I bring an example picture?

You can always look up local "alternative" salons in your area & go to the shop to spectate and see what kind of cuts they can perform. & bring a picture of what you would like.
Going in blind makes things harder on both parties.

Or just ask around. If you see someone with a style that you like, politely ask where they got it done. I doubt they are going to be like,"None of your damn business you creep, FUqK OFF."
If so, flip them the bird.
