Please Help! Why does pink in Queen Anne's Lace disappear as the flower matures?
What causes that pink to begin with and how does it disappear. Any ideas? Could a co-dominant gene disappear? How does it express pink and then express white later on in the same generation. Please help me understand or at least get some suggestion as to why this happens.
your queen anne's lace is fine
all of ours on the farm, they grow in the fence rows by the thousands, starting out the bloom in pale pink as the blossom matures the sun fades them to white, if you have a sunless week they stay pink longer, that is why we guessed that the sun fades them.
mom is close to fifty and she has never thought about it, just the way it was, she doesn't think that genetics have anything to do with it, since sometimes when it is sunless for several weeks, she has seen that they can be a darker rose shade fading to pink and rarely going to white on those sunless weeks, about 3 times in her life.
you know she mentions they have to go white other wise the crab spider will not have any where to hunt, the spider is snow white and primarily hides on the lace for its hunting grounds

she thinks you are putting to much science into something that fades with the sun, it is what it is and that is its original design, nothing fancy, just a lovely weed that cows munch up.
