Would you recommend wearing one or two pairs of socks inside figure skates?

The reason I'm asking is because I bought 2 pairs of skates to try on (both different sizes) and I must decide. What's more comfortable? I live in Canada and it's very cold during the winter. The skates are suede and not really insulated. Serious answers only, please.

Well, I would suggest that you wear one pair of socks, but choose thin wool socks for the warmth, because they don't lose any of their insulative ability when wet or damp (cotton does). There are other materials as well that you could try, such as polypropylene, that are warm but thin as well.

But that having been said, I would also recommend trying both ways and seeing which one works best for you. I knew a guy in hockey (yes, I live in Canada as well) who would wear three pairs of socks because he had narrow feet and needed to fill out the skate.

You'll know what's best for you once you get on the ice with a couple strides. I've never liked buying skates for this reason, because you could never try them on the ice before buying them, and that's always the litmus test.
