Reading of MRI results for neck please?

It states:Positive finding reported below,
1.straightened cervical lordosis.This may be seen with muscular spasm
2.mild cervical curvature to the left
3.cervicaldisc intervals
C2-3 and C3-4 Disc desiccation
C4-5 Early Disc desiccation
C6 Broad-based right paracentral Disc herniation with compression of the thecal sac. moderate encroachment/ narrowing of the right-sided neural foramen.
C6-7 Early desiccation
C7-T1 normal disc
Please tell me what all this means and how serious is it??

Jason, how old are you? I ask that because they keep mentioning early desiccation but not any accompanying degeneration of the vertebrae. What they are stating in this report is that the discs are drying out earlier than one would expect to see happen. At the C-6 level you have a large right sided herniation that is pressing on the nerve as it exits the vertebrae. You have muscle spasms of the neck that are causing it to be pulled backwards and to the left. This is understandable as the body is attempting to take the pressure off the disc herniation. What symptoms are you experiencing as this is the key to how serious this is. Remember that the findings are only important if they correspond to any complaints that you have. Unless you have had a prior MRI there is no way of knowing how much of this might have been there for a long time without giving you symptoms. I would suggest that you see a physical therapist and have them work with you on getting this herniated material away from the nerve. This can be done through a series of exercises that are going to be specific to what the therapist finds working for you. Posture is extremely important for you and you must try and keep good posture as much of the time as possible. The sooner that you see a therapist the faster this will clear. The biggest problem at this time is getting the muscles to relax and get back to their normal posture. That will take some of the stress off the nerve or nerves. Giving you any movements without seeing you would not be a good thing so get a referral to a physical therapist as soon as possible.
