Plus Size Women - Finding jeans that fit

If you need tall or plus-size jeans, you might search for years to find the perfect pair. Many shops don't stock plus-size jeans and, if they do, their selection is woefully limited.

Websites, however, can reach a much wider audience, so they're well stocked up with every size and shape imaginable. Many online stores specialize in tall and plus-size jeans.

If you're buying plus-size jeans online, you should first take your measurements. It's easiest if you can get a friend to do this for you. Measure your inseam (from your crotch down to the floor), hips and waist.

Plus-size jeans come in a variety of styles – straight leg, skinny leg, boot-cut, flare, high-waisted, wide leg, etc. Each of these styles looks good on a particular body type. For example, skinny-leg jeans call attention to the hips and thighs, while bootcut and flared jeans make the legs appear longer and flatter women of most shapes. It may take a few tries for you to figure out the best style of jeans for you.

More tips for choosing plus-size jeans:

Cuffs look great on some women, but will make legs appear shorter – it's best to avoid them if you're already quite short.
Darker colours tend to be more slimming. Wearing a dark shoe with your jeans will also make your legs appear longer.
Look carefully at the placement of back-pockets on plus-size jeans. The further apart and smaller the pockets, the wider and large your butt will look.
Jeans that are too short will make you look shorter, so the hem should cover most of your shoe.
