which is easier to knit for a person who only has knitted a scarf and small handerkerchief: socks or mitten?

i want to knit something for my mom for the holdiays but there are only like a week left until Christmas?
so im not sure which is faster and easier and unlikely to make many mistakes.
ive only knitted a scarf and a small handerchief (its not really a handerchirf but just a piece of kinitted cloth...)

Mittens would be easier, but I'm not sure you have time before Christmas. Maybe you could make her a hat instead, that would be faster than mittens.
