The range of the glossy black cockatoo is from southeast Queensland, through eastern NSW, Victoria and southern South Australia. They are found on and east of the Dividing range and experience a range of temperatures from sub-zero in the mountains in winter to 40°C+ in the summer. Their absence from west of the range would indicate that the plants on which they feed prefer higher rainfalls and humidities.
