Do small 1 inch pre-cut slate tiles exist to create a diamond pattern and if so where can I get them?

I am creating a tile back splash with slate tiles. I would love to make a diamond pattern with the tiny 1 inch tiles for a border. I know to create a diamond pattern you have to cut the tiles in half. I was hoping someone sells pre-cut in half inch tiles. If you know where PLEASE let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions on how to cut the tiny tiles I'd love to hear them! THANKS

Yes - look for "mosaic tiles". There are tile in different colors & sizes - one of the manufacturers I use (I am a kitchen/bath designer & CTS - Certified Tile Specialist) that is relatively affordable is Cancos tile. They have black slate 1x1s that are mesh mounted on approx 1 sf sheets. You can pop off blacks of say 4x4s & use them on the diamond. Usually tiles that are 2x2 and under are mesh mounted in 1 sf sheets and classified as mosaics. They are also quite a bit more expensive per square foot, but if you are using them as a deco, then you only need to get a few sheets. Tiny mosaics are more like to come in 5/8" squares, so if you do an internet search, keep that in mind (instead of 1/2"). Better yet, call some local tile dealers 7 ask if they have any samples of 1x1 slate mosaics or smaller & ask if you can come by to price them & check them out, and possibly borrow the to see if they work in your space. I would not recommend cutting larger slate tile down to that size myself, because slate can be a pain to cut that small because it shales. Good luck!
