Corset Coutil and Other corset fabric HELP PLEASE?
I have been going to Civil War reenactments with my friends for years. I have finally decided to fulfill a dream by making my own costume. Right now I am making a corset. The pattern I have suggests using coutil, poplin, damask or twill. I am looking for a shop that sells coutil reasonably priced. Or if anyone has suggestions for another fabric that does well for tight lacing corsets I'd love to know. And yes I am sure I want a fabric suitable for tight lacing. I have worn corsets before and have had no ill side effects from tight lacing. Also if anyone in the Antelope Valley area has news of any reenactments coming up soon I'd love to know. Thank you any and all suggestions would be greatly unappreciated.

I do re-enactment (1858-1963) out here on the west coast and I made my 22-bone corset with a 10-ounce canvas, and included a inner waist band made of cotton twill tape.
Which pattern are you using? I used the Simplicity pattern. I've since learned that the Laughing Moon pattern is "nicer".
Lining your corset with a light cotton will make the corset last longer, as will wearing a chemise/shift under the corset. Spring steel bones will give you a better silhouette.
