Blue Lizard sunscreen is one of the best baby sunscreens out there

It is distressing indeed for most parents to see their dear one's skin hurt in any way. They will immediately rush off to a dermatologist or their baby's doctor to find a quick and sure cure to rid the child's skin problem. However, such predicaments concerning your baby can be averted to a great degree by the use of a baby sunblock or baby sunscreen. Prevention is better than cure. A baby's skin is sensitive, soft and smooth. It produces low proportion of melanin, a compound associated with human skin color. Parents should look for a baby sunscreen lotion containing minimum chemicals and turn to natural methods like the use of hats or go in for organic creams, which are skin-friendly. This will prevent possibility of allergies or irritation.

Certain amount of sunlight is recommended to build healthy bones. It is only when the baby is exposed to longer hours of sunlight that parents need to take protective actions, like using a baby sunblock or a baby sunscreen. The onset of summer or a vacation by the sea can spell disaster for the baby's tender skin. The sun emits mainly two types of ultra violet rays - UVA and UVB, both of which affect the skin differently. The former only penetrate the upper layer of the skin called the epidermis and latter are more harmful and penetrate deeper into the skin.

A sun block, as the name suggests, blocks out the damaging effect of the sunrays by reflecting or physically blocking out most of them. The baby sunscreen lotion merely absorbs the ultra violet rays so that they do not reach your kid's skin. Therefore, the two - sun block and sunscreen are not the same. A good pediatrician is the best guide to advise you on baby sun protection methods. Ideally, sun blocks should contain:

· Titanium dioxide

· Zinc oxide

· Right degree of sun block SPF

As most sun blocks are opaque and messy, they are used only on small patches of the child's ears, nose, cheeks, behind the neck, forearms. With the availability of newer transparent sun blocks these days, this problem has been overcome. Today the market is inundated with baby sun protective creams, lotions, sticks, gels or spays. A daily protective coat of a baby sunscreen lotion would be perfect for your toddler.

A sunscreen is invisible and may be applied safely to the exposed parts of the body. The most preferred sun blocks or sunscreens are ones which are sweat-proof and do not rub off easily. Nor should they run into the babies' eyes or mouth. Since both interfere with the baby's natural cooling mechanism, keep their use to bare minimum. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have laid out specific rules about use of sun blocks and sunscreens for infants.

Using a broad-spectrum baby sunblock or a baby sunscreen protection regularly for your baby will keep him happy and smiling like the sun overhead.
