Black butterfly with white spots in Southern California?
I need some help with identification.
It's about the size of a swallowtail. It is entirely black except for four white spots near the tips of its wings (two per side). I've seen this species several times, so it can't be too rare, but I haven't come across anything like it in my research. I live in Southern California.
Does anyone have any idea what this species might be? (I apologize for the lack of detail--it's been a while since I've seen it.)
