How custom socks are made - What Else You Should Know More

A sock is footwear that is worn inside shoes to make one comfortable. Our feet are one of the largest sweats producing part of our body. So one often needs to feel more comfortable with socks, thus giving birth to the concept of custom socks, which is a sock made custom for specific need. These are socks which one can make customized according to the size, shape, colour, logo, designs, model and of course material.

Where Needed:-

Custom socks are needed and ordered in large quantities (usually no less than 50 pairs of a same model) to the companies that make and sell them. They are required mostly in institutes like a school, a college, an office, a cheerleading team, a sports team etc. and even for a family reunion or promotional gift as a part of a uniform.

General Models:-

Custom socks have three main models (generally) on which one can customize according to their needs. These are ankle or quarter socks, crew socks and tube socks. An ankle sock may be found in two size variations: one slightly larger than the other (used by mainly cyclists, basketball players and runners).

A crew sock is calf-length (used mainly by tennis players) and a tube sock is a knee-length one (used widely in sports like soccer, hockey, softball, baseball and also by cheerleaders and air hostess) and is the most popular amongst these socks.

How Knitted:-

Custom made socks are ordered in large quantities and are accordingly made by large organization. A real custom sock can never have logos and designs embroidered upon it. Once the model and design is selected by the customer and prices are agreed upon, the manufacturers start the procedure (they sometime accept a set up fee). And the socks are usually knitted by machines.

Because the delivery generally has to be done within 6-8 weeks, machines certainly are best approach. For a real custom made socks manufacturer, a factory full of knitting machines and experienced machinists is a common sight.

Sometimes there may be another thing that worth mentioning for some persons. Custom sock manufacturers often use overseas factory (naturally in a poor country) to utilize the cheaper labour available there. Sometimes some manufacturers mention in their website the work place of their company. But that information may just as well be inaccurate.

What Else You Should Know:-

Custom sock manufacturers can often be decisive (mostly on the price issue) because of the lack of transparency in the processes. Moreover, the dishonest ones often tend to embroider logos on the general models, making the socks not a general one. One should keep his eyes open for these!
